Hard and Soft
The Esquimalt Roasting Company is a fixture in the burgeoning community of Esquimalt/Vic West. We planned and designed intensively over the last 3 years in order to bring something together that would help accentuate Esquimalt’s rapid change from a navy and dockyard to a modern community. Our requirements for this space was that it retained a tough, hard, and functional aesthetic, similar to the township in which is resides. To accomplish this, we brought in custom metalwork, concrete, and solid White Oak, using materials that will stand the test of time. Softening the aesthetic with extensive greenery, we aimed to create an allegory with the cultural softening of the former hard lines and rough dockyards of Esquimalt, as they are morphed and evolve into a brand new, hip city centre.
